How hexadecimal converts to decimal
Hexadecimal is base 16: each digit is worth 16 times the one to its right, and the letters A–F stand for 10–15. Multiply each digit by its place value and add. For example, 0x1A = (1 × 16) + 10 = 26, and 0xFF = (15 × 16) + 15 = 255 — the largest value in a single byte.
Where you will run into hex
Hex appears in CSS colors (#FF5733), memory addresses, MAC addresses and Unicode code points (U+1F600). One byte is exactly two hex digits and spans 0–255, which is why bytes and colors are so often written in hex.
