Why use Data Storage Converter?

100% private

Every conversion is computed locally in your browser. Nothing you enter ever leaves your device.

Instant & two-way

Results update live as you type, in either direction — no “convert” button and no page reloads.

Accurate

Conversions use exact, standards-based factors, so you get the same answer a trusted reference would.

Works on any device

No install and no account — it runs in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone.

KB, MB, GB — decimal or binary?

Storage units come in two flavours: decimal (1 GB = 1000 MB), used by drive makers and networks, and binary (1 GiB = 1024 MiB), used by operating systems. This converter offers both unit families, which is why a “500 GB” drive showing as 465 “GB” in your file manager isn’t missing anything — the OS is counting in GiB.

Bits vs bytes

Network speeds are quoted in bits per second, file sizes in bytes — eight bits to the byte. A 100 Mbps connection moves at most 12.5 MB/s, so a 2.5 GB game download takes around 3½ minutes at full speed. Mixing the two up is the most common data-size mistake there is.

Frequently asked questions

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript — nothing you type is uploaded, stored or logged, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

Is it free?

Yes — completely free, with no account, no watermark and no limits on how much you convert.
