The feet to meters formula

One foot is exactly 0.3048 meters, so multiply feet by 0.3048: m = ft × 0.3048. A 6 ft person is 6 × 0.3048 = 1.83 m. To convert feet and inches, turn the whole height into inches first (6 ft 2 in = 74 in), then multiply by 0.0254.

Common feet-to-meter values

10 ft is 3.05 m, 100 ft is 30.48 m, and a 1,000 ft hill is 305 m. Room dimensions translate easily too: a 12 × 15 ft room is roughly 3.7 × 4.6 m. Because the foot is defined in metric terms, these conversions are exact apart from the rounding you choose.
